A 34-year-old man was arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy for allegedly transporting 380 sea cucumbers without a valid permit in the Kiranchi coastal area of Kilinochchi on Aug. 24 (Monday).
Navy personnel attached to SLNS Buwaneka under the North Central Naval Command intercepted and inspected a suspicious traditional boat approaching the Kiranchi coast.
The suspect, a resident of Kiranchi, was found transferring the sea cucumbers from the boat to shore without the required permit, the Navy said.
The boat and the consignment of 380 sea cucumbers were also seized during the operation.
The suspect, boat and sea cucumbers were handed over to the Kilinochchi Fisheries Inspector for further legal action. (Newswire)
