
Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (25), with fairly heavy falls above 75 mm likely at some places.
According to the Department of Meteorology, a few showers may occur in Anuradhapura, Matale and Hambantota districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Ampara, Monaragala and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 pm.
Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.
Fairly strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in the Trincomalee, Monaragala, Hambantota and Matale Districts.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be South-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mullaitivu to Chilaw via Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Mullaitivu to Chilaw via Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island may be fairly rough at times.
The wave height may increase about 2.0 – 2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara.
Naval and fishing communities engaged in activities in the aforementioned sea areas, are advised to remain vigilant in this regard. (Newswire)
