The World Health Organization has invited Sri Lanka to host the Universal Health and Preparedness Review (UHPR), a new voluntary evaluation system designed to strengthen member states’ capacity to identify, prevent, and respond to health emergencies. The Government of Sri Lanka has accepted the invitation.
The UHPR will be conducted under the leadership of the country being reviewed, with peer input from other nations. It is based on the concepts of “whole‑of‑government” and “whole‑of‑society,” requiring the highest level of government commitment and political leadership.
Through this process, Sri Lanka will move beyond existing national and international health security mechanisms, enhancing inter‑sectoral coordination, building effective governance structures, and reaffirming its fundamental commitments to health security.
