Alleged organized crime figure and drug trafficker Lalith Kannangara, alias “Bus Lalith,” has been brought back to Sri Lanka following his arrest in Dubai.
Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler said a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers brought the suspect to Sri Lanka early Tuesday (25).
The 36-year-old suspect, a resident of Kalutara South, had been wanted over several alleged crimes, including murder, attempted murder, assault and extortion.
An Interpol Red Notice had been obtained against him by the Western Province South Crime Division in connection with a case before the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court.
Police said an open warrant had also been issued by the Colombo High Court after he failed to appear before court in connection with a murder case.
Another open warrant had been issued by the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court over an incident on September 20, 2021, in which a person was allegedly shot and seriously injured outside his home in Nelunthuduwe.
The Avissawella Magistrate’s Court had also issued an open warrant against the suspect over an October 16, 2022 incident in which three people were allegedly attacked with sharp weapons and seriously injured.
The CID has commenced further investigations following his return to Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
