Sri Lanka stands in full solidarity with the government and people of Nepal following the devastating floods in Rasuwa District and other parts of the country, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said.
“I am deeply saddened by the devastating floods reported in Rasuwa District and other parts of Nepal,” Herath said, extending his thoughts to those affected and their families and communities.
He also commended Nepalese authorities and personnel involved in ongoing relief and rescue operations.
The floods struck areas along the Bhote Koshi River, causing widespread destruction in Nepal’s northern border region. A major search and rescue operation involving the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force is underway.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry said there have been no reports so far of Sri Lankan nationals being killed or injured in the disaster.
According to Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Kathmandu, an estimated 85 to 100 Sri Lankans are currently in Nepal, including nearly 20 students and several Sri Lankans working with international organisations.
The Sri Lankan Embassy in Kathmandu is monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as information becomes available. (Newswire)
