New ICC Test player rankings released

Sri Lanka bowlers Asitha Fernando and Prabath Jayasuriya have climbed five places each in the latest ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings.

Asitha has moved up to 15th in the Test bowling rankings, while left-arm spinner Prabath is now ranked 16th.

In the batting rankings, Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva moved up two places to 22nd, while Sonal Dinusha made a significant jump of 49 places to reach 54th.

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc, meanwhile, has become the world’s No. 1-ranked Test bowler for the first time in his career following his 10-wicket haul against Bangladesh in MacKay.

Starc overtook New Zealand’s Matt Henry and India’s Jasprit Bumrah to take the top position, holding a 10-rating-point advantage.

England’s Harry Brook retained the No. 1 position in the Test batting rankings and extended his lead over teammate Joe Root to 24 rating points.

India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant returned to the top 10 for the first time in a year, climbing six places to seventh, while KL Rahul moved up five places to 30th.

India spinner Manav Suthar climbed 28 places to a career-best 48th among Test bowlers following his 10-wicket haul in India’s 165-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle. (Newswire)
