A team of officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) visited the residence of MP Ravi Karunanayake on Parliament Road on Saturday morning.
Reports said the officials visited the residence after Karunanayake did not appear before the commission despite being requested to do so in connection with an investigation.
However, Karunanayake’s media team said the MP had not deliberately avoided appearing before the Bribery Commission.
According to the MP’s media team, Karunanayake had been informed to appear before the commission but was unable to attend on the specified date. His lawyers had therefore requested another date for him to appear.
The MP’s lawyers have said Karunanayake will appear before the Bribery Commission on a future date.
CIABOC officials left the residence after finding that Karunanayake was not in Colombo. (Newswire)
