Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa has questioned the government over delays in implementing Sri Lanka’s Digital ID, calling for a clear timeline for its rollout.
In a post on X, Rajapaksa said the government had announced successive timelines for the Digital ID over nearly two years, including a target of April 2026, which has now passed.
He said the public was now being told that the first Digital ID would be issued by the end of this year and questioned how many more deadlines people would have to wait through.
“Digital transformation requires more than announcements. It requires delivery, accountability and timelines that are honoured,” Rajapaksa said.
He called on the government to clarify when the Digital ID would actually be delivered. (Newswire)
