Consumers will have to pay more for several popular flour-based food items following a Rs. 17 per kilogram increase in wheat flour prices.
The All-Island Canteen Owners’ Association has announced a Rs. 5 increase in the prices of flour-based short eats, including parata and egg roti.
The price of a string hopper will increase by Re. 1, while the price of a hopper will rise by Rs. 2.
The revisions follow a decision by Prima Ceylon and Serendib Flour Mills to increase wheat flour prices by Rs. 17 per kilogram with effect from August 29.
Meanwhile, consumers could also face higher prices for bread and other bakery products.
The Central Committee of the All-Island Bakery Owners’ Association is scheduled to meet on Monday, August 31, to discuss the impact of the flour price increase.
Association President N.K. Jayawardena said a decision on whether to increase the prices of bread and other bakery products will be taken at the meeting. (Newswire)
