The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has provided nearly Rs. 22 million worth of agricultural equipment to farmers and school meal suppliers participating in the Home-Grown School Feeding programme in the Nuwara Eliya District.
The equipment, handed over in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, includes water tanks, garden hoses, sprayers, crates and fencing materials aimed at boosting local food production and supporting Sri Lanka’s National School Meal Programme.
The programme, funded by Michael Kors through WFP, links schools with local food producers while supporting rural livelihoods, particularly those of women. WFP said it has invested more than Rs. 92 million to support the implementation and expansion of the programme across Nuwara Eliya. (Newswire)
