A 15-year-old boy was killed and another child was seriously injured after a cab veered off the road and struck them in Sapugaskanda on Saturday evening, police said.
The accident occurred near Samurdhi Mawatha on the Biyagama-Sapugaskanda Road when the driver of a cab travelling towards Sapugaskanda reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle left the road and struck two children who were walking along the sandy shoulder.
Both were admitted to the Kiribathgoda Hospital with serious injuries, where one of them later died. The other injured child was transferred to the National Hospital in Colombo for further treatment.
The deceased was a 15-year-old resident of Gonawala.
Police have arrested the driver of the cab in connection with the accident.
