The Colombo District Courts will not function on Monday, Aug. 31, after a section of the court premises collapsed on Saturday night, the Colombo Law Society (CLS) has announced.
According to an urgent notice issued by CLS Secretary Lahiru Welgama, vehicles will also not be permitted into the Colombo District Courts premises due to the prevailing situation.
All cases scheduled to be called on Monday will instead be called on Sept. 30, 2026.
The CLS said the judges would provide further instructions in due course on how court proceedings will function.
Requests for the extension of enjoining orders will meanwhile be entertained if applications are made to the registrar.
The Colombo Law Society has also cautioned lawyers and members of the public against entering the affected building, warning that the structure may be unstable.
Further updates will be communicated as the situation develops, the CLS said. (Newswire)
