The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the publication of the Community Based Corrections (Amendment) Bill in the government gazette and its subsequent submission to Parliament for approval.

The Cabinet approved a proposal submitted by the Minister of Justice and National Integration.

Cabinet approval was previously granted on April 7, 2025, to amend the Community Based Corrections Act, No. 46 of 1999, by updating its provisions to enable more effective enforcement of the law in dealing with repeat offenders.

Following that approval, the Legal Draftsman prepared the amendment bill, which has since received clearance from the attorney general.

Accordingly the Cabinet of Ministers approved the bill, clearing the way for its publication in the gazette and subsequent presentation to Parliament. (Newswire)
