The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces and the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts today (04).
Per the advisory, effective until 11.00 pm today, red alerts have been issued for 10 districts and amber alerts for 15 districts.
The Met Department warns that thunderstorms accompanied with severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers, it added.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
