
Sri Lanka has recorded 96,040 dengue cases so far this year, with 72 deaths reported from the disease, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.
The country recorded 10,155 new cases in August alone, the unit said.
The Western Province continues to account for the largest share of cases, with 50,760 reported so far this year. The Southern Province has recorded 13,931 cases, followed by Central Province with 8,788 and Sabaragamuwa with 7,910.
Gampaha has reported the highest number of cases among districts, with 20,444, followed by Colombo with 19,008.
Kandy has recorded 7,043 cases, while Matara and Kalutara have reported 6,154 and 6,181 cases, respectively.
The National Dengue Control Unit said 50 Medical Officer of Health areas across the country remain classified as high-risk zones for dengue. (Newswire)
