The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Eastern and Uva provinces and the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts today (07).
Per the advisory, effective until 11.30 pm, red alerts have been issued to 07 districts and amber alerts to 06 districts.
The Met Department warns that thunderstorms accompanied with severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Uva and Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts, while there may be temporary localized strong winds during thunderstorms.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
