More than 3,200 kilograms of fish allegedly caught using explosives have been seized during a joint operation in Mullaitivu, the Sri Lanka Navy said.
The operation was conducted on September 7 by personnel from SLNS Gotabaya of the Eastern Naval Command together with officers of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
Authorities searched a suspicious fish collection centre in the Puttumatalan beach area, where they discovered the stock of fish suspected to have been caught using explosives.
A 38-year-old woman from Pudukuduiruppu was taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The seized fish and the woman were handed over to the Mullaitivu office of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for further legal action.
