Sri Lanka Police will implement a special traffic management plan in Colombo from Tuesday (8) to Thursday (10) in view of the official visit of Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Police said temporary traffic restrictions and diversions will be imposed along routes used by the minister’s motorcade, with motorists advised to use alternative routes where necessary.
According to the traffic plan, restrictions will be imposed at several locations during the following periods:
• Tuesday (8), 1.30 p.m.: Traffic restrictions along the route from Bandaranaike International Airport to the hotel where the minister will stay.
• Tuesday (8), 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.: Restrictions along the route from the hotel to the Indian High Commission and the return journey.
• Wednesday (9), 9.50 a.m. to 11.25 a.m.: Restrictions along the route from the hotel to the Presidential Secretariat and the return journey.
• Wednesday (9), from 2 p.m.: Further restrictions will be imposed for the minister’s scheduled movements.
• Wednesday (9), 7 p.m. to 7.10 p.m.: Restrictions along the route from the hotel for a scheduled movement.
• Thursday (10), 9 a.m. to 9.10 a.m.: Restrictions will be imposed for the minister’s departure movement.
Police said the restrictions will be imposed intermittently according to the movement of the motorcade and urged motorists to cooperate with officers deployed along the relevant routes.
Rajnath Singh is scheduled to undertake a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka from Sept. 8 to 10, during which he will hold discussions with Sri Lankan leaders and meet members of the Indian community in Colombo. (Newswire)
