The National Water Supply and Drainage Board says drinking water supplies across most of Sri Lanka remain normal despite the prevailing dry weather and high temperatures.
However, several areas have been affected due to declining water levels.
* Batticaloa and Monaragala districts are currently subject to a four-hour water restriction from 11 am to 3 pm, with supplies continuing during the remaining 20 hours.
* Bibile and Medagama in the Monaragala District and some areas of Mahiyanganaya are experiencing low water pressure.
* Bowser water supplies have been arranged for affected areas in coordination with the Disaster Management Centre, district authorities and local government bodies.
* More than 60 wells in the Monaragala District have been rehabilitated and made available for public use.
The NWSDB said authorities have assured that sufficient reservoir water remains available for drinking-water requirements.
The Board urged the public to use water sparingly and minimise wastage, particularly while dry conditions persist.
Rainfall is expected to improve toward the end of September and with the onset of the northeast monsoon, according to forecasts cited by the Board. (Newswire)
