Sri Lanka Customs officers at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) have seized a stock of Kush cannabis and Hashish valued at Rs.51.37 million from two Thai nationals who arrived from Bangkok.
The arrest was made during a special inspection at the arrival terminal on Monday (07) by the Customs Narcotics Control Unit. The suspects had arrived on Thai Airways flight TG‑307 and were intercepted after their luggage was examined.
According to Customs officials, from the baggage of a 39‑year‑old suspect, officers discovered 2.224 kilos of Kush cannabis concealed inside eight plastic bottles, with an estimated street value of Rs.22.24 million.
A second suspect, aged 23, was found carrying 2.272 kilos of Kush cannabis hidden in eight plastic bottles, valued at Rs.22.72 million. Further checks of his luggage also uncovered 641 grams of Hashish, disguised inside a cardboard box, worth approximately Rs.6.41 million.
In total, the seizure amounted to 5.137 kilos of narcotics, comprising 4.496 kilos of Kush cannabis and 641 grams of Hashish.
Following preliminary investigations, the suspects and the seized drugs were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at Katunayake Airport for further inquiries and court proceedings. (Newswire)
