Former MP Ashu Marasinghe has alleged that a Hong Kong bank account containing around US$22 million and linked to an individual associated with the former Rajapaksa administration was frozen after the Yahapalana Government came to power in 2015.

Marasinghe claimed that steps had been initiated at the time to take legal action against the relevant party, but alleged that individuals within the then-government intervened and prevented the matter from proceeding further.

He said those facing allegations of corruption during previous administrations were now among those criticising the current government.

Marasinghe also questioned the credibility of sections of the present opposition in leading campaigns against the government.

He further said that taking legal action against members of the Rajapaksa family should not be viewed as political revenge, and called for due legal processes to be pursued where there was sufficient evidence. (Newswire)
