Alleged underworld figure Ranjith Kumara, alias “Konda Ranji,” has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after being deported to Sri Lanka from Dubai, police said.
The suspect was taken into CID custody upon his arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport.
Konda Ranji had been arrested in Dubai earlier this year and remained in custody there while Sri Lankan authorities took steps to secure his return. Previous police reports identified him as an alleged organised crime and drug trafficking figure.
He has also been linked by investigators to an ongoing probe into the alleged laundering and transfer overseas of money generated through drug trafficking.
