Navy seizes 820kg of fish caught using explosives in Muthur

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended a suspect and seized approximately 820 kilograms of fish caught through destructive blast‑fishing practices during a search operation in Muthur.

Acting on credible information, naval personnel attached to SLNS Parakumba and SLNS Gokanna of the Eastern Naval Command intercepted a suspicious lorry in the area.

A search revealed the consignment of fish, suspected to have been harvested using explosives.

The suspect, identified as a 40‑year‑old resident of Poduwaikattu Senduur, was taken into custody. 

The lorry and the stock of fish were handed over to the Muthur Police Station, in coordination with the Muthur Fisheries Inspector, for further legal action. (Newswire)
