A private company in Bandarawela has been fined by the Bandarawela Magistrate’s Court for selling electrical extension cords without the mandatory SLS certification mark, failing to provide the required minimum warranty period and displaying goods for sale without legally valid supplier invoices.
The case was filed by the Badulla District Investigation Officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) under four charges.
Under Direction No. 63, electrical accessories rated up to 250 volts that are required to carry the mandatory SLS certification include plugs, socket outlets, extension cords, adaptors, fused connection units, conversion plugs and cable reels.
The CAA said consumers should check for the SLS certification mark and warranty period when purchasing electrical accessories and obtain a valid receipt or invoice.
The authority said these precautions are important to help prevent electrical accidents and fires. (Newswire)
