Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today convened a special meeting with parliamentarians representing the Northern, Eastern and plantation communities, focusing on the pressing social and economic hardships faced by residents in these regions.
During the discussion, held at the Opposition Leader’s office in Parliament, Premadasa sought detailed accounts from the MPs on how the current economic climate is affecting families in these areas. The dialogue highlighted the rising cost of living, declining household incomes, and the strain on basic infrastructure.
Attention was also directed towards healthcare and education needs, with MPs raising concerns about limited access to quality medical services, challenges in school education, and inadequate child nutrition. The meeting underscored long‑standing social and economic difficulties, stressing the need for practical measures to uplift living standards.
Premadasa emphasized the importance of maintaining continuous focus on these issues both inside and outside Parliament. He called for closer coordination among opposition MPs to gather information at the grassroots level and develop solutions that directly address community concerns.
