The Police Illegal Assets Investigation Division has confiscated properties valued at more than Rs. 100 million, believed to have been purchased with money earned through drug trafficking.

According to the Police, the order was obtained under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, following investigations into suspects arrested by the Peliyagoda Police in May 2020 while transporting heroin in a jeep. Seven individuals were taken into custody at the time.

Investigations have revealed that one suspect residing in Peliyagoda had acquired two large plots of land and two‑storied houses, a 19‑perch property in Kadawatha and an 18‑perch property in Kelaniya, each valued at around Rs. 50 million.

The Police said the suspect had purchased the properties using proceeds from narcotics trafficking.

The Welisara Magistrate’s Court has ordered the seizure of the assets for 14 days beginning September 10, 2026. (Newswire)
