Police have launched action against a bus driver after a video showing the vehicle allegedly bypassing a red traffic light in a dangerous and illegal manner near the Delkanda Junction went viral on social media.
According to Police, the incident occurred on September 12 along the Colombo–Avissawella main road.
The video shows the bus turning onto a road to the left of the junction while the traffic signal was red, travelling past the signal through the side road and then turning back onto the main road, effectively bypassing the red light.
The owner of the bus was summoned to the Mirihana Police Traffic Division and a statement was recorded.
Police have instructed that the driver who was operating the bus at the time be produced at the police station within three days.
The driver is also expected to undergo a drug test to determine whether he had used any illegal drugs.
Police said steps will be taken to produce the driver before court on charges of dangerous driving. (Newswire)
