Heads of foreign diplomatic missions based in Colombo began a three-day tourism development study tour of the Eastern Province on Friday (18), organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.
The group departed from the Colombo Hilton Hotel in the morning and arrived at the Anantaya Resort and Spa in Pasikuda.
The diplomats were scheduled to visit an exhibition of products by small and medium-scale handicraft producers in the afternoon after spending time along the Pasikuda beach.
The visit aims to showcase the Eastern Province’s distinctive cultural, social and economic values, rich heritage and potential for tourism promotion to the international community.
On Saturday (19), the group is scheduled to visit the Eravur Export Processing Zone, Seruwila Buddhist temple and the Koneswaram Hindu temple in Trincomalee.
The diplomats are scheduled to return to Colombo on the third day of the tour, Sunday (20).
During the three-day tour, the diplomats are also scheduled to meet political leaders, public representatives and government officials in the Eastern Province for discussions on future investment and regional development opportunities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the programme would help promote the province’s investment and tourism potential internationally, strengthen international relations and contribute to long-term sustainable tourism growth. (Newswire)
