The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the purchase of small‑scale machinery for the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation (SLLDC) to strengthen its capacity in managing urban drainage systems and mitigating flood risks.
The corporation plays a vital role in minimizing inundation in urban and lowland areas, maintaining canals, and carrying out urgent operations during flood events.
According to the government, the new machinery will be used to clean small canals, which significantly contribute to urban flooding.
The procurement will be carried out at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,233 million, funded through an equity contribution of Rs. 625 million from the General Treasury and additional allocations from the corporation’s own resources.
The Cabinet has approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development. (Newswire)
