Sri Lanka ODI captain Kusal Mendis says the team has prepared well for the three-match series against England and is hoping to make a winning start in the opening encounter at Chester-le-Street, Durham, on Tuesday (Sept. 22).
Mendis returns to international cricket after recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the recent T20I series against England.
The wicketkeeper-batter said Sri Lanka are ready for the challenge and expressed hope that the team’s preparations will translate into a positive result in the opening ODI.
Sri Lanka enter the series following a disappointing 3-0 defeat in the T20I series, during which their batting struggled to deliver consistent performances.
Mendis’ return is expected to strengthen the batting lineup, while Asitha Fernando also rejoins the team for the ODI leg of the tour.
The opening match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Sri Lanka time, with the remaining two ODIs set to be played at Headingley on Thursday and The Oval on Sunday. (Newswire)
