A new daily lottery aimed at directly supporting Sri Lanka’s free healthcare system has been launched, with proceeds to be allocated to the National Health Development Fund (NHDF).
The “Ayubo” lottery was introduced jointly by the NHDF, the Ministry of Health and Mass Media and the National Lotteries Board.
Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said funds generated through the lottery would be used to strengthen health services, acquire modern medical equipment and technology, and support responses to health emergencies.
The first draw of the lottery will be held as a special draw on October 12, 2026.
The minister said purchasing an Ayubo lottery ticket would not only give people an opportunity to participate in a draw but also allow them to directly contribute towards the development of the country’s health sector.
A patient monitor was also symbolically donated during the launch event.
Health Ministry Secretary and NHDF Chairman Dr. Anil Jasinghe, National Lotteries Board Chairman M.D. Cyril Anthony Perera and other officials attended the event.(Newswire)
