A hospital worker has died after sustaining injuries in the explosion at the kitchen premises of the National Nephrology Hospital in Polonnaruwa.
The explosion occurred at around 4:30 a.m. today (Sept. 26), injuring several people who were subsequently admitted to the Polonnaruwa General Hospital.
The deceased has been identified as an employee of the hospital.
The explosion also caused extensive damage to the building housing the hospital’s kitchen.
Police are investigating the incident. (Newswire)
