The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has raided a shop in the Puttalam District following allegations that it charged Rs. 850 for a single photocopy.
The incident had attracted widespread attention on social media, prompting CAA investigation officers to conduct a raid on the establishment on September 25.
According to the CAA, officers secured evidence relating to alleged violations of consumer laws uncovered during the inspection.
The Authority said preparations are underway to institute legal proceedings against the shop before the relevant Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
The CAA routinely conducts market investigations and raids and prosecutes traders found to have violated provisions of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act before Magistrate’s Courts.
Consumers have also been urged to report unfair pricing and other market irregularities through the CAA hotline, 1977. (Newswire)
