Two people were seriously injured after assailants travelling in a car opened fire at a residence in the Halpatota area of Baddegama, police said.
According to Police Media Spokesperson, the attackers opened fire using a T-56 firearm, injuring a man and a woman who were at the residence.
The injured were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Police said two teams have been deployed to investigate the shooting and identify those responsible.
