The Sri Lanka Police has refuted claims of irregularities in its ongoing tender to acquire body worn cameras, describing allegations made by Jana Aragala Vyaparaya organizer Wasantha Mudalige as baseless and unverified.
Following the media statements, a report was called through the Director of the Police Supplies Division. According to the report, a committee appointed by the Inspector General of Police comprising a Senior Deputy Inspector General, an accountant, and 15 gazetted officers unanimously recommended the procurement of 500 body worn cameras and 70 docking stations to meet current operational requirements.
The police stated that the procurement process strictly adheres to Government Procurement Guidelines, National Procurement Commission provisions, and established legal procedures to maintain transparency and fair competition. Technical specifications and Terms of Reference were drafted following discussions by a Bid Evaluation Committee, which weighed both purchasing and leasing options.
Public newspaper notices were issued to allow competitive supplier participation, and bid opening deadlines were extended on multiple occasions with written notice to all participating firms, denying that time frames were adjusted to favor any single bidder.
The police emphasized that no bidder has been selected or awarded the contract as evaluations remain ongoing, adding that anyone wishing to challenge the process can submit a complaint to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) (Newswire)
