Former Minister Udaya Gammanpila has been acquitted and released by the Colombo High Court in a case involving an alleged criminal breach of trust amounting to Rs. 21 million.
Colombo High Court Judge Nadee Aparna Suwandurugoda delivered the verdict following a lengthy trial.
In delivering the judgment, the Judge stated that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against Gammanpila beyond reasonable doubt.
Accordingly, the court ordered that former Minister Udaya Gammanpila be acquitted and released from the charges.
The case had been filed during the previous Yahapalana Government over allegations that Gammanpila had unlawfully sold company shares belonging to Australian businessman Brian Shaddick using an allegedly forged power of attorney.
He had been accused of committing criminal breach of trust involving approximately Rs. 21 million through the transaction. (Newswire)
