The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has warned the public to remain vigilant over a fraudulent SMS scam being circulated in its name, targeting individuals seeking employment opportunities in Israel.

The Bureau said fake SMS messages are being sent claiming to offer opportunities related to employment in Israel, with scammers attempting to deceive recipients into providing money or sensitive personal and financial information.

The SLBFE urged the public not to click on links contained in suspicious SMS messages claiming to provide overseas employment opportunities or financial benefits in the name of the Bureau.

Members of the public have also been advised not to provide bank account details, passwords or other personal information through links or messages received from unknown or suspicious sources.

The Bureau further warned job seekers against depositing or transferring money to bank accounts provided through such messages.

Those making payments in connection with foreign employment have been advised to verify that the relevant bank account is officially associated with the SLBFE before transferring any money.

Prospective migrant workers have also been urged to verify the legitimacy of foreign employment agencies through the SLBFE’s official website before making payments or proceeding with overseas employment arrangements.

The SLBFE called on the public, particularly those seeking employment in Israel, to remain alert to fraudulent schemes and verify the authenticity of any messages or offers before taking action.

For further information or clarification, the public can contact the SLBFE vis its hotline 1989. (Newswire)
