Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Rekha Gunasekera, has been elected Chairperson of the Executive Board of the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC).

Gunasekera was elected by acclamation during the 82nd Meeting of the CFC Executive Board, held in Amsterdam on September 16, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in The Hague said. The Ambassador also serves as Sri Lanka’s Executive Director to the CFC.

Addressing the meeting, Gunasekera said the CFC had become increasingly partnership-oriented and investment-ready, placing it in a strong position to respond to the evolving challenges faced by commodity-dependent developing countries.

She highlighted commodity transformation, enterprise development and investment mobilisation as key priorities for countries seeking to strengthen economic resilience, diversify their product bases and achieve sustainable and inclusive growth.

Gunasekera also reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to strategies aimed at promoting inclusive growth, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, increasing value addition and advancing economic diversification.

Sri Lanka expressed appreciation for the CFC’s longstanding partnership and investments in the country’s commodities sector, while expressing its intention to further strengthen cooperation towards sustainable, inclusive and resilient growth.

The CFC Executive Board is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Fund and reports to its Governing Council.
