Two modern laparoscopy machines worth nearly Rs. 120 million have been donated to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health to strengthen the country’s free health care services.
The medical equipment was officially handed over at the Asidisi Medura premises of the Ministry of Mass Media in Narahenpita.
The donation was made by Ven. Nakulugamuwe Sumana Thera, who resides in Singapore, and Sunil Wijewardhana Kohilawatta, chairman of the Kadawatha Sarana Buddhist Foundation.
According to the Ministry, arrangements are being made to allocate the two machines to the National Hospital in Kandy and the Ragama Teaching Hospital.
Laparoscopy machines are used to perform minimally invasive surgical procedures, allowing surgeons to operate through small incisions.
The handover ceremony was attended by members of the Maha Sangha, Parliamentarian Hemali Weerasekara, representatives of the Kadawatha Sarana Buddhist Foundation and other officials. (Newswire)
