MP Chamara Sampath Dissanayake has been remanded until October 23 over an alleged bribery case involving the issuance of phosphate export licences.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order after considering submissions made by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and lawyers representing the suspect.
Dissanayake was arrested by CIABOC officers on the morning of October 12 and produced before the court over allegations that he accepted Rs. 8.1 million in bribes from two private companies in exchange for issuing phosphate export licences while serving as State Minister of Primary Industries.
