Sri Lanka has showcased its world-renowned Pure Ceylon Cinnamon in Mumbai, India, as part of efforts to expand export opportunities and strengthen trade ties with India’s hospitality, culinary and wellness sectors.

According to the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, the trade showcase titled “The Ceylon Cinnamon Story – A Sri Lankan Legacy” was held at Lisa’s Lanka in Bandra on October 7, 2026, under the Economic Diplomacy Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.

The event brought together diplomats, Indian trade officials, representatives of the Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHAR), chambers of commerce, industry experts, chefs and influencers to promote the heritage, quality and commercial value of Pure Ceylon Cinnamon.

Addressing the gathering, Sri Lankan Consul General Priyanga Wickramasinghe highlighted the historical significance and economic importance of Ceylon Cinnamon as one of Sri Lanka’s flagship spice exports.

The event also highlighted Ceylon Cinnamon’s recognition as the first Sri Lankan product to receive Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status from the European Union in 2022, recognizing its geographical origin and distinctive qualities.

Meanwhile, Minister (Commercial) of the Consulate General Shirani Ariyarathne delivered a presentation on the spice’s history, cultivation, traditional craftsmanship, certification, grades and culinary applications.

The presentation also highlighted Ceylon Cinnamon’s distinctive floral-citrus flavour and significantly lower coumarin content compared to cassia cinnamon.

Visitors were introduced to various grades of Ceylon Cinnamon, including Alba, Continental, Mexican and Hamburg, alongside value-added products such as cinnamon powder, cut quills, cinnamon leaf oil and cinnamon bark oil.

The showcase also featured live cooking demonstrations and tasting sessions by Chef Lisa Sadanah, highlighting the use of Pure Ceylon Cinnamon in savoury dishes, mocktails, desserts and infusions.

The Consulate General stated that the initiative forms part of Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to promote its exports and expand commercial partnerships in Western India, particularly in Mumbai, a major hub for hospitality and international trade. (Newswire)
