Police have launched an investigation into an incident in which the driver and conductor of a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus were allegedly assaulted by the driver and conductor of a private bus in Anuradhapura.

According to Police, the incident occurred on the evening of October 13 near the Pothanegama Vijayarama Temple in the Anuradhapura Police Division.

Investigations revealed that the two buses had departed from the Anuradhapura Old Bus Stand at the same time, with the SLTB bus travelling towards Ilandagahawewa and the private bus heading towards Kala Oya.

Police said the assault had occurred following a dispute between the two bus crews while travelling along the route.

A video showing the altercation has also been circulating on social media.

The private bus involved in the incident has been taken into police custody, while its driver and conductor have reportedly fled.

The Anuradhapura Headquarters Police have launched further investigations to arrest the suspects.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Police warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals who engage in unlawful activities that endanger pedestrians and other road users or cause inconvenience to the public. (Newswire)
