Former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been appointed head coach of Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, replacing Sri Lankan cricket legend Mahela Jayawardene.
According to India Today, Pollard has been promoted from his previous position as batting coach, extending his long association with the five-time IPL champions.
Pollard represented Mumbai Indians for 13 seasons as a player before moving into a coaching role following his retirement from the IPL.
The appointment marks a new chapter for the franchise, with Pollard taking charge of the team’s preparations for IPL 2027.
His promotion also brings an end to Jayawardene’s latest tenure as Mumbai Indians head coach.
Jayawardene stepped down on October 17, ending a decade-long association with Mumbai Indians. During his coaching tenure, the franchise won three IPL titles in 2017, 2019 and 2020.
Mumbai Indians reached the playoffs in 2025 but struggled during the 2026 season, finishing ninth in the 10-team competition.
Pollard will now be tasked with rebuilding the team’s fortunes as the franchise prepares for the next IPL season. (Newswire)
