The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an advisory for heavy rain across several parts of Sri Lanka, warning that rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in some areas.
The advisory, issued at 5.30 a.m. on Sunday (25), is valid until 5.30 a.m. on Monday (26).
According to the advisory, heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, Northern and Southern provinces, as well as the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Anuradhapura districts.
The centre said a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, near the North Andaman Islands, had intensified into a depression.
Under the influence of this weather system, rainfall is expected to increase across the island over the next few days, starting today (25).
