The Irrigation Department has issued a minor flood warning for low-lying areas along the Mahaweli River within the Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat Division, following heavy rainfall in the river’s upper catchment areas.
According to the Department, significant rainfall recorded over the past few hours has increased the risk of minor flooding in low-lying areas adjacent to the Mahaweli River.
The warning, issued at 11.30 a.m. today (26), will remain valid until 11.30 a.m. tomorrow (27).
The Irrigation Department has advised residents in the affected areas and motorists travelling along roads passing through these locations to exercise extreme caution.
People living close to the Mahaweli River have also been urged to remain highly vigilant and take necessary precautions against possible flooding.
Meanwhile, disaster management authorities have been requested to take appropriate precautionary measures to ensure public safety. (Newswire)
