The third phase of the Baseline Road Extension Project in Colombo was officially launched today (27) under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara.

The project involves widening and upgrading a 0.86-kilometre stretch of road from Kirulapone Junction to Dutugemunu Street along the Colombo–Horana main road.

The government has allocated Rs. 2.886 billion in domestic funding for the project, which will be implemented by the Road Development Authority under the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development.

The upgraded road will feature six lanes, each 3.5 metres wide, along with dedicated pedestrian walkways and bicycle lanes.

Construction is expected to be completed within 18 months, with the road scheduled to open to the public in April 2028. (Newswire)
