“My dear @anuradisanayake, it was a pleasure to meet with you in India in February of this year,” Lula stated.
Referring to his election victory, the Brazilian leader said the people of Brazil had demonstrated that democracy could be defended against disinformation and extremism.
“The Brazilian people showed that it is possible to defend democracy against disinformation and extremism. It was a great victory! I hope we can deepen technical cooperation and bilateral trade between our countries,” he added.
Earlier, President Dissanayake congratulated Lula on his election victory, describing the result as a defeat for corruption, division and political misinformation.
“Today, the people of Brazil did not just win an election; they defeated the forces of corruption, division and political lies,” President Dissanayake stated on X.
He further described Lula’s victory as historic, saying it demonstrated that people could not be misled by political dynasties and forces of the past.
“Many congratulations, companheiro, for leading the march of progress yet again!” President Dissanayake added. (Newswire)
