The very severe cyclonic storm ‘Arnab’, which developed over the west-central Bay of Bengal, has begun its landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast in India, resulting in a gradual weakening of its influence on Sri Lanka’s weather.
According to the Department of Meteorology, several spells of showers are expected today (28) in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are forecast at a few places in the Uva Province and the Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 1.00 p.m.
Strong winds of 40–50 kmph can also be expected at times along the western slopes of the Central Hills, in the Northern, North Central and North Western provinces, and in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take necessary precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Newswire)
