The Department of Meteorology says the influence of Cyclone Arnab on Sri Lanka’s weather has gradually weakened after the storm crossed the coast of Andhra Pradesh, India.

In its general weather forecast for the next 36 hours, issued at 4.00 p.m. today (28), the Department said several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers are also expected at a few places in the Uva Province and the Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 1.00 p.m. tomorrow (29).

Mainly fair weather conditions are forecast for other parts of the island.

Meanwhile, strong winds of around 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces, and the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

The Department has urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Newswire)
