Sri Lanka and Thailand have held discussions to strengthen bilateral cooperation across health, education, technology and economic sectors.
The discussions took place during a bilateral meeting between Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, and Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Prof. Yodchanan Wongsawat. The meeting was held on October 28 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, on the sidelines of the Fifth Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference.
Talks centered on using modern technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), to improve the efficiency of Sri Lanka’s healthcare services, alongside exchanging technical expertise in the field.
Both sides discussed expanding exchange programmes for students, academic staff and researchers between universities and higher education institutions in both countries. They also explored obtaining modern technical assistance from Thailand for agriculture, irrigation and scientific water management.
Additionally, the two delegations exchanged views on encouraging Thai investments in Sri Lanka and launching joint tourism promotion programs. Both parties emphasized strengthening long-standing religious, social and cultural ties based on their shared Theravada Buddhist heritage.(Newswire)
